Mary Gewarges, Yoga/Pilates Certified Instructor
Describe the essence of what you do in your job. Instead of your title, tell us what it is you do.
I learn whatever I can and try to do whatever work necessary to become the best possible version of myself. I take that knowledge and experience, and try to inspire and help others to become the best possible version of their selves.
I look at people as their individual selves, body and personality, and try come up with whatever I can from whatever I have studied to help them come into a better balance inside and outside.
What are some of your personal interests, outside of work?
Yoga, studying, swimming, running, hiking, reading, learning.
What are some things you believe in? It can be a favorite quote or words of wisdom, etc.—something that identifies you.
I believe that who and what we are right now is a product of everything we have been and done. If that is something we are unhappy with, then we have an amazing capacity to do and be different – our lives take the shape of where we aim.
What do you like most about working for this organization?
Seems like open, like-minded people who want to help people do and be better and believe in overall wellness.
What do you like most about caring for patients?
Knowing that I made someone’s life better. Seeing how they change, and seeing them become inspired by themselves and surprised at what they can do. Showing them that they can change and be more than they thought they could.
Why did you choose to become a physical therapist or therapy position?
I find the body absolutely fascinating and endless in what we can learn about it and how it works. I marvel how we are a fully integrated system – from the thoughts we think, to the foods we eat, to the exercise we do or not, it all affects us. I like problem solving, I like that everyone is different, and I like exposure to so many different people who I may not have gotten to experience otherwise. But underneath all of that we are fundamentally the same. I like that all of that makes every hour of what I do different. I love making people’s lives better.
What do you think patients like most about you?
I work with them as they are and change what I do to suit them, so that it works for them and they will do it. I get to know them as a person and help them address their issues. I make them feel better and do things they did not think they could.
What do you think patients like MOST about your organization?
I have a lot of diversity in my studies, so I have a lot to draw on to come up with the right thing for the person in the way that best suits them. I think they most like really getting individual care and attention in a way that they can understand, be educated, and feel benefit from.
