Kauai Therapy & Wellness combines the Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) approach with dynamic and static stretching to increase range of motion and maximize benefits during all one-on-one stretch sessions. I know those are fancy words for basically having assisted stretches to contract certain muscles and hold the contraction for a few moments. This advanced form of stretching is very beneficial in increasing range of motion and getting maximum benefits. Static stretching is holding a stretch for a set amount of time. Dynamic stretching includes movement associated with the stretch. We use a combination of these stretches in our sessions with the goal of keeping the whole body moving better therefore helping to prevent injury and ailment.
We offer a 25 or 50 minute sessions.
One-on-One Sessions
- 25 Minutes – A great option for those seeking to improve range of motion and freedom of movement, this shorter session concentrates on major muscle groups of the core, back, shoulders and hips.
- 50 Minutes – This head-to-toe stretch is deeper and more extensive while focusing on the same muscle groups but adding the extremities (if you have a achey neck, for example, this one’s for you!).
Our general recommendation for most clients is twice per week for the 25 or 50-minute stretch. We can make specific recommendations based on your lifestyle and health habits but we have seen the best results for most people attending 2X/week on a consistent basis.
In theory no; in practice, it depends on your health, any treatments you are receiving, any injuries or existing pain. We strongly suggest that you discuss stretching with your health care professional before you start any program. In our experience from children to 80 year olds, proper stretching results in increased flexibility and strength, leading to improved mobility and lower risk of injury, and a significant increase in the simple pleasure of being alive.
Absolutely. One of our therapists, Mindy Murray, stretched throughout all three of her pregnancies and attests to the benefits.
