From the Student Side:
Next-Gen Therapists in the Making
Every now and then, our clinic gets to welcome student PTs and future DPTs who bring fresh energy, curiosity, and the drive to learn. This past July, we were lucky to have two such students join our team: Amelia, a current DPT student completing a short clinical rotation, and Elijah, a PT student who wrapped up his shadowing hours with us earlier this summer.
Amelia
- Adaptability in a New Clinical Environment: 100%
- Soft Tissue Technique Confidence: 88%
- California Sunshine Still Missed: 82%
Originally from California, Amelia has embraced life in Idaho while completing her clinical rotation and exploring the hands-on side of physical therapy.
“If my time here were a movie, it would be called ‘A California Girl in an Idaho World,’” she says.
During her time with us, Amelia discovered something she didn’t expect to enjoy as much as she does: soft tissue mobilization.
“I didn’t fully understand how magical it can be until I started at Kauai and had the opportunity to work on patients’ muscle spasms and scar tissue. It can make a huge difference!”
Along the way, she’s also learned a valuable lesson that no textbook could teach:
“Healing is not linear, and everyone’s experience is uniquely theirs. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to physical therapy.”
That insight is shaping the kind of therapist Amelia hopes to become—one who takes the time to truly get to know each patient and understand what matters most to them.
“That way, I can treat everyone individually, targeted to their specific goals,” she says.
Outside the clinic, Amelia keeps her energy up with music—hip hop on the way to work, country on the way home, and always at maximum volume.

Amelia’s time at Kauai Therapy & Wellness may have started as a clinical rotation, but it quickly became something more: a space to grow, connect, and discover the kind of therapist she hopes to be. From hands-on techniques to heartfelt lessons, her journey reminds us that the future of physical therapy is in thoughtful, curious, and compassionate hands.
She will be with us for just a few more weeks this August so make sure to say hi if you see her around the clinic!
Elijah
Even though Elijah wasn’t able to send in his responses for this post, we still want to give him a shoutout! It was a joy to have him around the clinic as he completed part of his observation hours.
- Learning Mode Activated: 95%
- PT School Destiny Loading… 89%
- Shadowing Focus Level: 98%
