Sandpoint Physical Therapy
What is Physical Therapy all about?
Physical Therapists use their knowledge of the human body and movement to find the best solution for patients and encompasses three different treatment goals in the Physical Therapy sessions; to educate, to prevent, and to recover.
Physical Therapists (PT) work to educate their patients about their condition and what can be done to treat it. An evaluation is typically performed at the first treatment to figure out what the root of the problem is. There are many different reasons for this visit including a surgery, a fall, postural issues, chronic pain conditions and many more. The patient will be educated about home exercises they can do to help their rehab process and make sure the patient understands how to do them at home.
PT’s work to help patients prevent injuries as well, with the help of different motion screens and strength tests. The PT will look for any abnormalities (which we all have), and try to predict issues that can arise from these. Strength and stretching programs are shown to the patient to help prevent injuries from occurring. Prevention is very beneficial in lowering medical costs, preventing time lost at work. and preventing hospital visits.
Recovery is a very important aspect of Physical Therapy. PT’s work to help their patients recover from their surgeries and injuries. Strengthening programs are initiated to help you regain strength to be able to perform daily activities. Range of motion programs are implemented to help aid with mobility. Manual therapies is incorporated into PT sessions to help with a wide array of problems.
Some examples of manual therapies are as follows:
- Pressure Point
- Soft-Tissue Mobilization
- Joint Mobilization
- Therapeutic Exercises
Physical Therapy will ultimately help to decrease your pain and improve your ability to do the things you want to do.
