A Day in the Life of Our PTs & OTs

A Day in the Life of Our PTs & OTs:

How We Help You Stay Active & Independent

Ever wondered what our physical and occupational therapists actually do all day? It’s more than just stretching and exercises, it’s about helping you move better, feel stronger, and stay independent at any age.

We chatted with Ben, one of our talented physical therapists, and Mindy, our amazing occupational therapist, at Kauai Therapy & Wellness to get an inside look at their day-to-day routines, the patients they help, and their best advice for staying active and independent.

What’s a typical day like for you at the clinic?

Ben, PT: “A typical day is pretty busy in clinic, generally running from one patient to the next.”

Mindy, OT: “Each day is a mix of hands-on treatment, creative problem solving, and lots of movement! I help patients regain independence in daily activities, whether it’s dressing, cooking, or managing pain.”

What types of patients do you mostly work with?

Ben, PT: “I mostly work with workers’ compensation and general population with low back pain. I’m particularly talented at helping those who’ve not had success elsewhere.”

Mindy, OT: “I work with a wide range—from post-surgical recovery to chronic pain, neurological challenges, pediatrics with developmental delays, and general age-related changes. Many of my patients are seniors working toward staying active and independent at home.”

What’s something most people don’t realize about PT or OT?

Ben, PT: “Most people don’t realize that a good PT session will explore exercises that you can do with minimal pain to help move through or within your injury.”

Mindy, OT: “That it’s not just about hands or injuries—it’s about empowering people to do the things that matter most to them, whether that’s gardening, holding a grandchild, or making their morning coffee without pain. I view the entire person holistically- this is everything i can learn about who they are, this helps me know how to best know how to approach their care.”

Favorite part of the job?

Ben, PT: “Lunch breaks 😉”

Mindy, OT: “Helping people feel hope again—seeing someone regain confidence in their body and abilities is the most rewarding part of what I do. I love just connecting and learning about who they are as I generally love people!”

One tip to seniors trying to stay active and independent?

Ben, PT: “Do something that makes you sweat, or gets you out of breath every day.”

Mindy, OT: “Keep moving every day in small, meaningful ways. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about being consistent.”

It’s clear that physical and occupational therapy are so much more than exercises. They’re different in their own ways and approaches, but they share the same goal: understanding you, your needs, and helping you live life to the fullest.

Thanks to Ben and Mindy for sharing a peek into their day! ✨
