The practice of yoga makes the body strong and flexible, it also improves the functioning of the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and hormonal systems. Yoga, when done correctly can ease pain & stiffness.
Yoga is a fantastic way to tone and condition the body with simple yet challenging movements. Yoga teaches us to engage the proper muscles in order to get the most out of a workout and to protect ourselves from injury. Yoga is all about engaging the core of the body. The core being comprised of the abdomen, back, hips, and thighs. Yoga not only works on strengthening the core but also stabilizing it. Developing core stability is critical for building a solid foundation for activities of daily life. Without a stable core, our bodies are more prone to falls, injury, and pain. An added benefit as well is a more toned body & weight loss! That being said, it is important to be sure you are performing Yoga exercises correctly – improper form can do more harm than good. Before watching a You- Tube Video or unrolling a yoga mat in the back of a class at the gym, make sure you have set a good foundation in Yoga form and techniques that specifically modified to your size, ability, and diagnosis. If you have pain, injury, or weakness then Yoga must be modified to properly benefit you & prevent injury.
